New Zealand appoints Cindy Kiro as 1st Māori woman Governor-General

New Zealand's PM Jacinda Ardern appointed Cindy Kiro as the country's next Governor-General, making her the first Māori woman to hold the post. Kiro's five-year term begins in October, when she will replace Patsy Reddy. Kiro said that she accepted the position with a "huge sense of gratitude and humility" and as an opportunity to serve her country.
