New Zealand changes open work visa rule from April 20

New Zealand will introduce new open work visa rules from April 20, 2026, dividing visas into two categories, one allowing full work flexibility, including self-employment, and another restricting workers to employer-based jobs. All visa holders must follow labour laws and cannot hire staff or run certain businesses. Existing workers can continue current jobs until their visas expire.
