NGT orders inquiry into illegal mining in Yamuna River

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has initiated an investigation into illegal sand mining activities along the Yamuna riverbed in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh, following a petition by Dr Amit Kumar. He alleges that extensive mining is occurring without the necessary environmental clearances. A joint committee has been formed to assess the situation and report within three weeks.
