Nigeria reports diphtheria outbreak in country; 25 dead in 1 state

Nigerian health authorities on Friday confirmed an outbreak of diphtheria in the country. The Kano State, one of Nigeria's 36 states, has recorded over 70 suspected cases along with 25 deaths related to the bacterial infection. Nigeria's Centre for Disease Control and Prevention is monitoring the situation in four states. Diphtheria causes breathing difficulties, heart failure and paralysis.
