NMC tightened oversight, colleges faced seat cuts: Health Ministry

The Union Health Ministry told Parliament that medical colleges failing NMC quality norms-faculty, infrastructure or clinical requirements-faced show-cause notices, compliance checks, monetary penalties and even MBBS seat cuts. Under MSMER-2023 and PGMER-2023, NMC carried out annual evaluations to maintain education standards, ensuring stricter oversight of medical institutions nationwide.
