No GST on student hostels outside educational institutions

Hostel accommodations for students that are located outside of educational institutions will be exempted from GST, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced after 53rd GST Council Meeting. The council recommended exempting accommodation services having a value of supply up to ₹20,000 monthly per person. Further, the condition for exemption is applicable for minimum continuous stay of 90 days.
