North America is 'dripping' down into Earth's mantle: Study

The underside of the North American continent is dripping down into Earth's mantle in blobs of rock, a study revealed. Published in Nature Geoscience, the study describes the phenomenon as "cratonic thinning" and it may be the first time it got captured in action. The dripping is concentrated over the Midwest of the United States.
