NPCI asks UPI apps to hide phone numbers over privacy: Report

NPCI is discussing the implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) law with UPI apps and partner banks, Moneycontrol reported. It has directed payment apps to mask users' phone numbers to improve privacy. UPI apps will need to offer non-mobile number-based IDs and allow users to set them as their default payment identifier.
