Oakland firefighters responding to three-alarm fire at apartment, rescues in progress

A fire was burning on Friday morning at a senior-living apartment building near Lake Merritt. The fire began on an upper floor of the Grand Lake Gardens apartment complex on the 400 block of Santa Clara Avenue. It had reached three alarms by 6:30 am. Dozens of firefighters and police were at the scene, assisting residents as they evacuated.
