Oldest known evidence of fossilised skin found in US

A recent study shows the oldest evidence of fossilised skin, belonging to an early Palaeozoic reptile species. Discovered in a US' Oklahoma quarry, the skin flake is estimated to be 286-289 million years old and has a pebbled texture resembling crocodile skin. Despite its microscopic size, 3D analysis revealed ancient epidermal tissues, sharing features with both past and present reptiles.
