Oldest known tombstone in US belongs to an English knight: Study

A study published in the International Journal of Historical Archaeology revealed that the oldest known tombstone in the US belonged to an English knight, likely Sir George Yeardley, and may have originated from Belgium. Researchers traced its origins through carvings and inlays, linking it to colonial-era trade routes. The 1627 tombstone was found in Jamestown, where Sir Yeardley died.
