Only 2 teams have defended the title in FIFA World Cup history

Only two teams have successfully defended the men's FIFA World Cup title. Italy were the first, winning in 1934 at home and again in 1938 in France. Brazil matched the feat by lifting the trophy in 1958 in Sweden and 1962 in Chile. Since then, no defending champion has retained the title.
