Only 50 items remain in 28% GST bracket, down from 227

The Goods and Services Tax Council on Friday reduced the number of items being taxed in the highest 28% bracket to 50, from the earlier 227. The GST rate was cut to 18% on mass use items like chewing gums, chocolates, and deodorants. This is expected to have a revenue implication of ₹20,000 crore annually.
