OPCW urges urgent destruction of Assad-era chemical weapons

Organisation for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons' chief Sabrina Dallafior visited Damascus urging identification and destruction of remaining Assad-era chemical weapons. Syria's authorities allowed verification of 42 destroyed chemical aerial bombs, a first since 2014. Syria also handed over 100,000 documents to OPCW. Syria was reinstated to OPCW in July 2025 after losing voting rights in 2021.
