OpenAI banned Canada school shooter’s ChatGPT months before incident

OpenAI said it identified and blocked the ChatGPT account of Canadian school shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar in June 2025 after it was flagged for "furtherance of violent activities". It didn't alert law enforcement then because it saw no "imminent and credible" threat. In Feb 2026, Jesse killed her mother and half-brother before killing six others at a school and herself.
