OpenAI o1 mediocre, not incompetent: Prof Tao aka 'Mozart of math'

Terence Tao, a renowned professor who is also known as the 'Mozart of math', recently reviewed OpenAI's new AI model o1. "[It is] roughly on par with trying to advise a mediocre, but not completely incompetent graduate student," Tao said. He further added that o1 needs improvements to reach the level of a "competent graduate student".
