OpenAI's head of data centres quits; 4th top-level exit in a month

OpenAI's head of data centres, Chris Malone, has left the AI startup, becoming the fourth senior executive to exit in August after Brad Lightcap, Denise Dresser and Kaylin Voss. Malone joined OpenAI in March 2025 after working as a distinguished engineer on data-centre infrastructure at Meta and Google. His departure comes amid growing US backlash over AI data centres.
