Oppenheimer Blue diamond sells for world record

The Oppenheimer Blue, the largest vivid blue diamond ever offered at an auction, was sold for a world record price of $57.5 million at Christie's auction on Wednesday. The rare rectangular-cut stone, weighing 14.62 carats, previously belonged to Sir Philip Oppenheimer, who controlled the Diamond Syndicate in London. “It’s the most expensive jewel ever sold at auction,” said Christie’s spokeswoman.
