Academy Awards organisers issued new rules to clarify that acting and writing must be performed by humans and not AI to be eligible for awards. Last year's debut of AI-generated "actress" Tilly Norwood added to concerns and sparked a backlash. Filmmakers can use AI tools but a "synthetic" actor would be ineligible for an Oscar. Screenplays must also be "human-authored".
