Our ties with India will depend on Ganges water-sharing treaty: B'desh minister

Bangladesh minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the country's ties with India will depend on renewing the Ganges water-sharing treaty to meet "the needs of Bangladesh's people". The pact regulates dry-season sharing of Ganga water at Farakka Barrage in West Bengal. Bangladesh earlier announced a barrage project on Padma River (Ganges in Bangladesh) to "negate the negative impact" of Farakka.
