Over five crore income tax returns (ITRs) for AY 2026-27 had been filed as of Wednesday, the Income Tax Department said. With the July 31 deadline approaching, the department added, "Don't wait for the last-minute rush. Reconcile and file your ITR-1 or ITR-2 for AY 2026-27 today!" It further revealed that over 30 lakh ITRs were filed on Tuesday.
