Over 8,600 complaints filed against judges in past 10 years: Data

According to data presented in Lok Sabha in February 2026, over 8,600 complaints were filed against sitting judges between 2016 and 2025. The maximum number of 1,170 complaints was filed in 2024. Recently, a chapter on “corruption in the judiciary” in an NCERT class 8 book had triggered a row, after which the SC ordered immediate withdrawal of the textbook.
