Over 9,000 died in pothole-related accident in India between 2020-24

A total of 9,438 people died in pothole-related accidents in India between 2020 and 2024, according to data from Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Uttar Pradesh alone accounted for 5,127 deaths. Madhya Pradesh recorded the second-highest death toll at 969, followed by Tamil Nadu with 612, Odisha with 425, Punjab with 414 fatalities and Assam with 395 fatalities.
