Pakistan's biggest dam, Tarbela Dam, lost 182 billion litres of water storage capacity in 2025 after India suspended the Indus Water Treaty following the Pahalgam terror attack. India had flushed sediments from its upstream dams, which filled up the bottom of Tarbela Dam, reducing its capacity. This lost water could have met the daily needs of Karachi for five months.
