Pakistan bans its official Oscar entry 'Joyland' over 'highly objectionable' material

Pakistan's official 2023 Oscars entry 'Joyland', which is based on transgender love story, has been banned by the country's authorities, citing "highly objectionable" and "repugnant" material. The makers of the film are criticising the ban and calling it "absolutely unconstitutional and illegal". The film was the first Pakistani film to be selected as an official entry at Cannes film festival.
