Pakistani man convicted of Iran-backed plot to assassinate Trump

A 47-year-old Pakistani man, Asif Merchant, has been convicted on terrorism and murder-for-hire charges for devising an Iran-backed plot to assassinate US President Donald Trump and other politicians. Merchant acted as Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) operative and hired hitmen to carry out the killings. But the hitmen turned out to be undercover FBI agents, leading to his arrest.
