Parliament ratifies Bill increasing number of Supreme Court Judges to 38

The Parliament on Wednesday ratified the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026 after Rajya Sabha passed the legislation. The bill increases sanctioned strength of Supreme Court Judges from 34 to 38, including Chief Justice of India. It seeks to replace Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Ordinance, 2026. Notably, Lok Sabha cleared bill on Monday by voice vote.
