Parrot recognised as lost species spotted after years in Indonesia

An Indonesian mountaineering group in April 2026 spotted one of Indonesia's most elusive birds, the Blue-fronted lorikeet, on Buru's highest peak. First described from seven specimens in the 1920s, it went unrecorded for nearly 90 years before being photographed in 2014. The Blue-fronted Lorikeet was recognised as a lost species by the Search for Lost Birds in 2024.
