Chinese embassy in Bangladesh warned its citizens against using illegal matchmaking services/brokers for so-called 'buy a bride' schemes in the country. It said those involved could be arrested on suspicion of human trafficking. Under Bangladeshi law, human trafficking is punishable by at least seven years in prison, with penalties extending to life imprisonment or even death penalty, it added.
