People who convert to religion other than Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism to lose Scheduled Caste status: SC

The Supreme Court has said that a person who professes a religion other than Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism can not be a member of the Scheduled Caste. "Conversion to any other religion results in loss of Scheduled Caste status," SC said. A two-judge bench said a Dalit person who converted to Christianity cannot claim protection under the SC/ST Act.
