Philippine President considers renaming country to 'Maharlika'

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is considering changing the country's name to 'Maharlika'. Duterte said late dictator Ferdinand Marcos had demanded to change the country's name to 'Maharlika', noting the colonial origins of 'Philippines', named after Spanish King Philip II. The name change would require a new law and the public's approval in a referendum, the Presidential Palace said.
