Pic from space shows Sahara dust storm sweeping across Atlantic

A Suomi NPP satellite captured an image of a huge Saharan dust storm moving across the Atlantic Ocean. The dust plume, seen arcing northward, shows how far particles from the Sahara Desert can travel, reaching thousands of kilometres. These dust particles affect global weather, air quality, and even help fertilise distant places like the Amazon rainforest.
