The first-ever Test match took place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from March 15, 1877 to March 19, 1877. The MCG at the time had one newly built grandstand that could seat 2000, with the remainder of the ground surrounded by a grass bank. The MCG can now seat around 100,000 people.
