PL Santoshi's film 'Shehnai' was independent India's 1st film

Released on August 15, 1947, filmmaker PL Santoshi's romantic musical film 'Shehnai' was India's first Hindi feature film after British rule ended. The film starred Rehana, Nasir Khan, VH Desai, and an 18-year-old Kishore Kumar and was the fifth-highest grossing of the year. Now, 80 years later, PL Santoshi's son, Rajkumar Santoshi's film 'Batwara 1947' released on August 14.
