PM Modi's claim that Sunday is a 'Christian' holiday is misleading
Delivering a speech in Jharkhand's Dumka on 28 May, PM Narendra Modi said that British colonisers and Christians were responsible for making Sunday a holiday in India. However, fact-checkers have debunked this claim. It was the Bombay Mill Hands Association in 1890 that declared Sunday as a holiday for all labourers, following the efforts of social reformer Narayan Meghaji Lokhande.
