Portugal bans face coverings in public under new 'burqa law'
Portugal's ban on face coverings in public spaces, dubbed 'burqa law' in local media, carries fines of up to €150 to €3,000 (approximately ₹15,000 to ₹3 lakh). There are exemptions for health, professional or weather-related reasons, as well as in places of worship and on aircraft. France was the first European nation to implement ban on full-face coverings in 2011.
