Post saying citizens above 75 years need not pay taxes is fake

A post claiming Indian senior citizens aged above 75 will no longer have to pay taxes is fake, PIB's fact check unit said. "Senior citizens above 75 years, with only pension and interest income, are exempt from filing ITR," PIB said. "Taxes, if applicable, are deducted by the specified bank after computing the income and eligible deductions," it added.
