President Droupadi Murmu has given assent to the Gujarat Uniform Civil Code (UCC) 2026, published in the state gazette on October 1. The law mandates marriage and live-in relationship registration, with children from live-in relationships deemed legitimate. Scheduled Tribes are exempt. The Code will take effect on a date to be separately notified by the Gujarat government.
