Pretext for further invasion: US on Russia recognising Ukraine's breakaway regions

The US ambassador to the UN said that Russian President Vladimir Putin's recognition of two breakaway regions in Ukraine as independent was an "attempt to create a pretext for the further invasion of Ukraine". "Russia's clear attack on Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty is unprovoked. It violates basic principles of international law," Linda Thomas-Greenfield added.
