Prez Obama awards Ellen DeGeneres the Medal of Freedom

Actress-comedian and TV show host Ellen DeGeneres was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by US President Barack Obama. Ellen was lauded by Obama for her courage in publicly coming out as a lesbian almost 20 years ago. In a speech to honour Ellen's contribution, she was referred to as someone who "lifted spirits" and "brought joy".
