Prisoners kill 7 police officers in Guatemala, emergency declared

Guatemalan President Bernardo Arevalo declared a 30-day state of emergency to combat gang-affiliated violence by prison inmates that killed at least seven police officers and took 46 guards hostage across three of the country's prisons. Barrio 18 gang, which pushed for greater privileges for its members in prison, was blamed for the riots.
