Protein mutation associated with age-related hearing loss: Study

IISER Mohali scientists identified a mutation (P47) in the Cadherin-23 protein, crucial for hearing, that weakens its mechanical stability, leading to age-related hearing loss. Using magnetic tweezers, they found P47 unfolds faster under stress than natural variants, revealing a molecular link to hearing decline. The study was published in Nature Communications.
