Protests erupt across India against Transgender Persons Bill

Protests were held in many parts of India on Sunday against Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026. The protesters said that the bill criminalises "lived realities of transgender communities". The amendment proposes changes, including removing the right to gender self-identification recognised by the SC and introducing medical certification for identity recognition.
