Provincial official assassinated in Afghanistan's Badakhshan

Zabihullah Amiri, director of the Information and Culture Department in Afghanistan's northeastern Badakhshan province, was shot dead by two armed attackers while travelling to work near the provincial capital, Fayzabad, on Tuesday. His bodyguards killed one assailant, while security forces launched a search for the second. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the killing.
