Punjab approves amendment to sacrilege law, proposes life term & up to ₹25 lakh fine

Punjab Government has approved the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Bill 2026, proposing stricter punishment, including life imprisonment and fines up to ₹25 lakh, for sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib. CM Bhagwant Mann said, "Since this is already an act...it can be implemented immediately." The Bill in the Assembly will be introduced on April 13.
