Punjab approves life term for sacrilege of religious texts

Punjab Cabinet on Tuesday approved amendments to Code of Criminal Procedure and Indian Penal Code to make sacrilege of all religious text punishable with life imprisonment. In 2016, the state cabinet had passed a bill mandating life imprisonment for sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, but the new bill includes the Bhagavad Gita, the Quran and the Bible as well.
