Punjab plans to expand cradle scheme for abandoned infants

Punjab's Pangoora shelter has cared for 105 abandoned babies since its launch in 2008. Run from the Red Cross Bhawan in Amritsar, it has a cradle where infants can be left safely and anonymously. After medical examination, healthy babies are transferred to recognised adoption agencies under the Legal Adoption and Placement Scheme. The cradle scheme is set to be expanded.
