Railways refuses to disclose how it calculates fares, calls it a ‘trade secret’

The Indian Railways informed the Central Information Commission (CIC) that the method of calculating the fare is a "trade secret" and it can't be revealed under RTI Act. "Disclosure of pricing related information is not justified in public interest, as profit, if any, is distributed/transferred to common man and is not retained for the benefit of personal gain," it said.
