Indian Railways will soon manufacture dual-mode diesel locomotives that would be able to run on an electrified route by drawing power from the overhead wires, according to a senior Railway Ministry official. Railways will manufacture five such locomotives in Varanasi as a pilot project. The new ₹18 crore dual-mode locomotive is expected to reach a top speed of 135 kmph.
