Rajya Sabha passes Transgender Persons Amendment Bill

The Rajya Sabha Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026 was passed by Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The bill proposes to take away the right of self-determination of gender and omits persons with "self-perceived gender identities" from the definition of "transgender person". The bill will now be sent to President Droupadi Murmu for her assent.
